The Journey begins

Bogota view from our apartment balcony...my presentable hairstyle thanks to Aneesa, blouse from Erica, invisible slippers from Alta, & beautiful plants complements of  Paula -- all we have to do is water and fertilize them :)

A bit of fun even on light traffic days
taken from a bus window

We have begun our next grand adventure… arriving in Bogota last night. Things were a bit different upon entering a new international terminal. The taxis outside were reported to be very orderly, but it really was a free-for-all. We noted on the way from the airport the lanes on the street were defined by painted lines!  And the cars stayed in their own lanes-- somewhat. More things will be changing. The horses dragging carts and clip-clopping on the freeway amidst the cars and motos will disappear in the near future. The carts will be outlawed by the end of the year and the government is reportedly buying the horses. Rumors are they are implanting computer chips in the horses to avoid purchasing them more than once.

Bet you can't eat buy just one either!

It was nice to be in a taxi on a Friday afternoon to see the ‘everything goes’ traffic that we remember. ‘You just have to get the rhythm and go with the flow’. Our driver said traffic is bad all day on Friday. We were really glad to have a taxi to ride from the CCM (MTC) as the fruit market across the street just happened to be open, so we stopped and bought some pitaya, aguacantes, papaya, grenadillas, piña, Mangos, manazanas, etc. It was too tempting and we quickly bought too much and (according to T), it cost too much as well. One should never shop a South American market (or any other) when hungry.

David & Paula on
the way to their grand new
adventure!
We have been here 2 days and surprise! it has rained both. This is the Bogota we know and love. It has been fun to reconnect with people that we knew from before and meet some new ones. Paula and David (the doc we are replacing) left about 4:00 this morning, so we are really on our own. I’m afraid that we left what Spanish we had somewhere over the ocean. We are searching for it, and hopefully it will make its way here soon.

I am supposed to look like I am posing, open eyes are not important,
only if one can read the names on the placard in the bus window and
if I am willing to do it over and over and ov......

Oh yes, now I remember how James learned so handily how to use the Busetas to get where we want to go. He took many photos of me posing while a bus passed, so he could photo the sign in the window without drawing too much attention. Since we are in a new neighborhood, I smiled a lot on the street today :)
